The Department of History, Political Science, and Philosophy at Texas A&M University—Kingsville invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track Assistant Professor of practice position effective August 2021. All areas of subject specialization within Criminal Justice will be considered.


The successful candidate should be committed to excellence in teaching and service. Candidates should be willing to teach introductory courses in criminal justice and criminal law, correctional systems and practices, legal aspects of law enforcement, and advanced courses. Position duties also include campus and department service, along with facilitating student internships, community outreach, and promoting professional relationships, including internships, between Criminal Justice agencies and students.

Responsibilities include teaching fifteen credit hours per semester and participating in department, college, and university service activities. Candidates may be asked to develop new classes, on-line course offerings, or other classes for distance delivery.


A master’s degree (or terminal degree) in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Sociology, or Homeland Security is required by the time of appointment; additionally, the candidate should have a minimum of 18 graduate hours in Criminal Justice or Criminology from a regionally accredited institution or university by time of appointment. Teaching experience (online and face-to-face) at the undergraduate and/or graduate level, particularly in the areas of criminal justice or criminology is required. Five or more years of professional criminal justice system related experience is required. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
