ROLE SUMMARY

The Enterprise Platforms & Security (EP&S) organization delivers the following capabilities for Pfizer. Business application platforms supporting Pfizer’s enterprise application and critical business processes. Infrastructure allowing business traffic to travel where it needs to go, internally and externally, along with the appropriate access controls. EP&S secures Pfizer's most important information assets through world class controls and protections and enables Pfizer's business results by making security an enabler and not a roadblock to achieving business results.

The Digital Hosting Solutions (DHS) team represents the Digital Center of Excellence (CoE) for cloud infrastructure capabilities, providing foundational public and private cloud services to all business lines, globally across Pfizer.  DHS is a high-performing team, focused on delivering secure, scalable, compliant, operationally viable, and cost-effective cloud solutions. Working within Digital Hosting Solutions is to be at the cutting edge of cloud technology within the context of the world’s leading biopharmaceutical organization, at a time when adoption of these technologies is increasing rapidly.

As a Staff Engineer, you will serve as a technical leader in our organization, leveraging your deep expertise in cloud-native technologies to drive the design, development, and implementation of our infrastructure. Your responsibilities will span across strategic planning, architecture design, and technical leadership. You will work closely with various teams to understand their needs and translate them into reliable, scalable, and secure cloud solutions. Your role will also involve mentoring other engineers, making critical decisions about the cloud architecture, and solving complex, organization-wide technical problems. With your extensive experience and knowledge, you will play a pivotal role in shaping our cloud strategy and enabling our teams to build cutting-edge applications.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Pfizer Engineers must operate with the highest levels of integrity, as colleagues within DHS are often entrusted with the highest levels of access to development and production environments. The ability to protect confidential information, identify risks, mitigate non-compliance, and operate within defined policies & procedures is a must. 

  • Cloud Architecture Design: Lead the design and implementation of robust, scalable, and secure cloud architecture, ensuring it aligns with the company's business needs and technical strategy.
  • Technical Leadership: Provide technical leadership across the organization, influencing the adoption of cloud technologies and practices, and driving the resolution of complex technical challenges.
  • Strategic Planning: Participate in strategic planning sessions, providing insights and recommendations on the use of cloud technologies to achieve business objectives.
  • Mentorship: Mentor and guide other engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement, and helping them to develop their cloud skills and knowledge.
  • Cross-Team Collaboration: Collaborate with various teams, including development, operations, security, and business teams, to understand their needs and translate them into cloud solutions.
  • Cloud Governance: Establish and enforce cloud governance policies and best practices, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and promoting efficient use of cloud resources.
  • Innovation: Stay abreast of the latest developments in cloud technologies and trends, identifying opportunities for innovation and improvement.
  • Performance Management: Monitor and manage the performance and reliability of the cloud infrastructure, identifying and addressing any issues or bottlenecks.

 BASIC QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related field or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in software development, with a focus on cloud technologies.
  • Strong knowledge of AWS, Azure, and/or GCP services, including the deployment and management of cloud resources using IaC.
  • Experience with cloud architecture, including designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable, secure, and reliable cloud infrastructure.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language, such as Python, Java, or Go.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to tackle complex technical challenges.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence technical strategy and mentor other engineers.
  • Demonstrated experience in an agile work environment possessing qualities such as a collaborative mindset, adaptability to change, and a proactive problem-solving approach.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Certifications in cloud technologies from providers like AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies, such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with DevOps practices and tools, including CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience in a regulated industry, with a strong understanding of compliance requirements related to cloud computing.
  • Knowledge of security best practices for cloud infrastructure and application development.
  • Prior experience in leading or mentoring a team of software engineers.

Respond on short notice during normal working hours. Extended hours, weekends, and holidays may occasionally be required during critical events. 

Limited travel may be required.
