What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking a R&D Systems Engineer to join our Weapons Subsystem 5 group, which is a multidisciplinary team designing and developing advanced electronic subsystems. This group provides solutions to technical challenges that directly support our mission and commitment to national security. This is a highly collaborative work environment where successful candidates will create innovative solutions for difficult technical problems and acquire increasing levels of responsibility.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Negotiate, define, and derive system and component-level requirements;
  • Define performance requirements and develop acceptance criteria for subsystems;
  • Support qualification and verification planning;
  • Lead anomaly resolution teams through root cause analysis, solution options, and the trade space to evaluate the efficacy of those options;
  • Work with various subsystem teams to verify complex requirements;
  • Lead trade studies on design options and alternatives; and
  • Support various design reviews with customers and stakeholders.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

Salary Range:

$119,700 - $235,800

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or relevant engineering discipline and five years of experience; or an advanced degree in Electrical Engineering or relevant engineering discipline plus two years of experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills and ability to perform independent research and development
  • Possess expertise in one or more of the following areas: developing requirements and concepts of operation; performing trade studies; performing project management; generating technical documentation; developing and testing prototype systems; analyzing test data; troubleshooting prototype electronics; qualifying systems; or identifying failure modes and performing failure analysis
  • Ability to travel up to 25%
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Works well in a team-oriented environment and work cooperatively with other internal and external organizations
  • Strong communication skills (especially technical writing skills), interpersonal skills, and the ability to influence others
  • Ability to juggle competing priorities and deadlines
  • Active DOE Q or DoD TS security clearance
  • Bachelor’s and master’s degree in relevant engineering discipline plus five or more years of experience
  • Experience working on systems or component requirements, design, qualification, production, or related modeling/simulation projects
  • Familiarity with engineering tools and languages such as PSpice, Python, MATLAB, C/C++, Simulink, DxDesigner, and NI TestStand

About Our Team:

Weapons Subsystems 5 supports the United States nuclear deterrent by developing advanced electronics component designs for new systems, stewarding deployed systems, and maturing technologies and concepts for future systems. Weapon Subsystems has responsibility for all aspects of development, including: conceptual design, prototype development and testing, qualifying the design meets requirements, and transitioning production work to production agencies. Work is performed by multidisciplinary teams of electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, and technologists, in partnership with project management, quality engineers, and reliability engineers. Realized products maintain a focus on exceptionally high confidence, quality, and reliability.
