Job Description

Summary

The Human Genome Sequencing Center (HGSC) at Baylor College of Medicine is recruiting a Research Technician II to work in its CLIA laboratory conducting next-generation sequencing assays.  The candidate should be able to work independently and within the CLIA team. They should be flexible and adapt to the pipeline requirements and complete assigned tasks in a timely manner. Qualified candidates should be good at multi-tasking, problem-solving, and have strong communication skills. 

Job Duties

  • Performs pipeline production tasks for Next Generation Sequencing library preparation with liquid handling systems.
  • Participates in lab compliance activities to comply CAP, CLIA, HIPPA and all relevant Federal, State and local regulations.
  • Documents experiment procedures.
  • Collects, compiles, evaluates and analyzes data.
  • Interprets detailed assay procedures and test results.
  • Performs laboratory research projects and production tasks.
  • Updates LIMS, sample tracking and summarize data in an appropriate format.
  • Prepares reagent, solutions, and oligos used for production.
  • Performs routine laboratory equipment maintenance and log records as required.
  • Tracks the inventory for reagents and reports when furthering order is needed.
  • Works within a team to process samples in the production pipeline, as well as work on projects including protocol development and optimization.
  • Works under the direction of the team leader and the group manager. 
  • Document experiment procedures. Collect, compile, evaluate and analyze data. Interpret detailed assay procedures and test results.
  • Updates LIMS, samples tracking and summarizes data in an appropriate format.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related field.
