Welcome to the Department of Neuroscience & Regenerative Medicine (DNRM) at the Medical College of Georgia! The mission of the department is to promote multidisciplinary research and teaching excellence in both biomedical and clinical sciences. The department was founded in 1993 as the Institute of Molecular Medicine and Genetics. We seek to attract outstanding faculty and bright students by creating a welcoming, collegial, and collaborative environment to foster success and creativity. Our faculty's research focuses on a variety of fundamental areas, ranging from neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric disorders, brain injury, learning and memory, neuroprotection, development, inflammation, and regenerative medicine, using a broad repertoire of experimental approaches. Our department is also the home to the Transgenic and Genome Editing Core, which is supported by the Georgia Research Alliance.

Job Summary

A training position designed to learn through engagement at an advanced level of scientific technical work in support of research efforts focused on molecular, cellular, and electrophysiological aspects of mouse taste bud regeneration. Participate in research data collection and documentation within relevant guidelines and protocols; develop and evaluate new research techniques and procedures; publish results in scientific journals. Perform a variety of complex chemical, biological, cytologic, microscopic, histologic, surgical, statistical/computational and dissection procedures.

Responsibilities

The duties include, but are not limited to:

Project Planning and Development of Protocols: Participate in project planning and development of research protocols while ensuring adherence to accepted scientific research principles and compliance with relevant federal guidelines. Perform a variety of molecular, cellular, and neurophysiological experiments. Techniques include, but are not limited to, use of transgenic mouse models, in vivo nerve recording, mouse surgery, qRT-PCR, immunofluorescence, and confocal imaging.

Analyze Results: Analyze results of experiments and procedures using manual or computer techniques and, if necessary, develop special computer programs to facilitate analysis.

Articles: Compose articles for publication in scientific journals; review articles prepared by others.

Advise Personnel: Advise principal investigators, other postdocs, students and other research personnel on research techniques, procedures, and other technological aspects of research activities.

Research Activities: Coordinate and participate in research of scientific literature; summarize and evaluate findings; develop derivative applications of techniques developed by own research activities or reported by other research projects. Presents findings at scientific meetings locally, nationally, and internationally.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D. degree from an accredited college or university.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities



Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.

SKILLS

Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

ABILITIES

Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required).

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
