Sandia reserves the right to extend the posting date at any time. : We are seeking a Postdoctoral Appointee to join our dynamic and hardworking team to support technical research in areas of physics, chemistry, materials science, and optical science/engineering. The successful candidate will have experience modeling advanced optical systems in commercial solvers (e.g. Zemax/Code V, VirtualLab, COMSOL), a background in developing experimental prototypes for demonstrating novel physical/optical concepts, and a strong analytical skillset for interpreting and presenting collected data. On any given day, you may be called on to: + Tackle complex problems creatively, working both independently and in collaboration with other researchers + Work to better understand light-matter interactions in complex optical systems + Provide feedback and guidance on electronic and mechanical specifications + Test and validate fabricated systems + Support lab and outdoor field testing of electro-optical prototypes + Present results of research at suitable conferences and publish the results in high impact journals
+ Ph.D. in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Optical Sciences or an equivalent field acquired within 5 years prior to employment + Ability to obtain a DOE Q clearance
+ Proficiency with varied communication methods, including oral presentation, preparation of high-impact visual presentations, written reports, as evidenced by publication in peer-reviewed journals + Proven experience with experimental research and technique development + Interest in exploring fundamental phenomena of light-matter interactions in nanoscale devices + Strong theoretical background in Physics and Optics + Experience with commercial sequential ray-tracing programs (e.g., Zemax, Code V, or similar) + Experience with physical optics (e.g. VirtualLab, COMSOL, Lumerical) + Familiarity with Python, Matlab, and Microsoft Office Suite
