Position Summary

The pharmacist is a licensed professional with the ability to review a research protocol and extract pertinent information that would be useful to the patient care pharmacy staff in preparation of investigational drug products.  The individual is able to supervise technician staff, assisting the director and managers in the operational aspects of the department or unit. This individual actively works to ensure optimal delivery of pharmaceutical care and service, particularly in relation to research protocols and investigational drug therapies.  As well as, assisting in performance improvement initiatives, either through direct involvement and membership or by occasionally leading PI team efforts. He/she provides input into and is expected to meet budget, revenue and expense targets. It is expected that the individual who holds this position is able to actively participate with peers, subordinates, and supervisors in constructive problem solving, as well as, to facilitate frequent team building interactions with staff.

  • Promotes collaboration and teamwork among all members of the healthcare team.
  • Effectively communicates/educates all customers to meet organizational goals and customer service expectations.
  • Maintains current knowledge, skills and competencies through involvement in professional continuing education activities.
  • Fosters involvement in performance improvement activities to promote continuous improvement in care delivery.
  • Demonstrates assimilation of core organizational values within own performance.
  • Maintains logs and records to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Assumes the duties of the Pharmacy Technician/Intern as needed to maintain efficient quality operation and timely service.

Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:

  • Graduate of ACPE-accredited Pharmacy School or School with ACPE accreditation pending. Experience may substitute for minimum education requirements
  • Two years of experience as a pharmacist in a hospital setting

Required Certification/Licensure: 

  • Current California Pharmacist License.
  • BLS – American Heart Association or obtain within 9 months of hire date.

Preferred education, experience and skills:  

  • BS Pharmacy Degree, Pharm D preferred
  • 5 years of experience working in an investigational drug service

Additional Information:

  • Full-time, day shift
  • This position will support the IDS program for 7 Orange County/Long Beach based community practice sites.
  • This position is primarily based out of Long Beach, but will require traveling to the other local sites.
