Job Description

The primary responsibility of this position is the generation and validation of 3 transgenic mouse lines. The technician will be responsible for propagation and genotyping of the mouse lines, as well as downstream molecular experiments, including western blotting, flow cytometry, and immunostaining.

The Biology Department is seeking a motivated person to work on a projected funded by Dr. Kalinski’s John’s Hopkins MERKIN PNNR research grant. The technician will work in a collaborative environment at Ball State University as well as participate in the monthly PNNR webinar series, compromised of many of the top neuroscientists in the field.

Job Function:

The primary responsibility of this position is the generation and validation of 3 transgenic mouse lines. The technician will be responsible for propagation and genotyping of the mouse lines, as well as downstream molecular experiments, including western blotting, flow cytometry, and immunostaining.

Minimum Education:

Bachelors of science (or equivalent) expected by May 2023.

Preferred Education:

Bachelors of Science (or equivalent) in molecular and cellular biology.

Minimum Experience:

One year of research experience using mice as a model organism.

Preferred Experience:

Experience propagating mouse lines; experience with advanced laboratory techniques such as western blotting, flow cytometry, and immunostaining.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Set up and propagate breeding pairs to generate transgenic mouse lines.
  • Validate mouse strains by genotyping (DNA isolation, polymerase chain reaction,
    and gel electrophoresis).
  • Perform western blotting, flow cytometry, and immunostaining experiments.
  • Preparing oral and written reports, package and distribute results for project.
  • Familiarization with the current research needs and goals in the field of
    peripheral nerve injury.
  • Participation in monthly virtual webinar series of the John’s Hopkins Merkin
    Peripheral Neuropathy and Nerve Regeneration Center.
  • Assist in the preparation of presentation and manuscripts for publications.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
