Job Description
External Job DescriptionWorks under the supervision and direction of the Director and/or Manager, Network Services
Responsible for designing, implementing, monitoring, and managing the local and wide area networks, which serves more than 10,000 students across 50 residential, metro, military, and international locations.
Responsibilities also include designing system configurations, documenting and managing the installation of new networks, and maintaining and upgrading existing systems, as necessary.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Installing, configuring and supporting network equipment including routers, switches, wireless LAN controllers, and DNS/DHCP servers
Ongoing network performance monitoring and troubleshooting using various tools, including network management systems, network traffic analyzers, and performance monitors
Configure and monitor various network security technologies, such as firewalls, VPN, access control systems, and Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS)
Procuring network equipment and managing subcontractors involved with network installation, as well as coordinating efforts for consultants working on projects
Build relationships with network vendors, drive vendor selection and business review cadence
Responsible for arranging scheduled firmware upgrades and implementing necessary patches, hotfixes, service packs, cumulative updates and other updates to meet security compliance and maintain system integrity
Responsible for troubleshooting and resolving a wide variety of complex system failures, software and hardware issues, as well as investigating faults in the network
Resolve issues tiers of support have escalated by troubleshooting cloud and local infrastructure
Expected to participate in an on-call rotation schedule to provide 24/7/365 support coverage for all University network hardware and software architectures. Coverage requires incumbent to carry a personal cell phone and is responsible to ensure that designated communication equipment is always fully operational.
Responsible for following all established Information Technology policies and procedures in relation to change control, work orders, inventory management, and documentation control for implementation, coordination, and maintenance of all levels of network hardware, software, and other related architectures
Performs other duties as assigned by Director and/or Manager, Network Services.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and/or equivalent experience. Extensive knowledge of routing and switching configurations in a Cisco network environment. At least 3-5 years practical experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
CCNA or CCNP certification preferred.
