The College of Science and Mathematics, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Augusta University invites applications for a faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor, in the area of Bioinorganic, Biophysical, and Biomaterials Chemistry. Scientists in the Department work in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment fostered by interactions across the many science and medical disciplines. Research areas of interest are in conventional biochemistry, bioinorganic chemistry, and biophysical chemistry, molecular biophysics, biosensors, biomaterials, and structural biology. Augusta University houses advanced core facilities with NMR, Mass Spectrometry, Spectroscopy, Microscopy, XRD, and High Performance Computer cluster. Responsibilities
Teaching
Teach courses and selected lectures to undergraduate and graduate students on topics related to expertise including physical chemistry. Provide training in research area to undergraduate, graduate, and post-doctoral lab researchers.
Development
The candidate is expected to develop an independent, novel research program, display a commitment to excellence in the research area by successful grant and publication record. In addition, added collaborations with other researchers, publish results, and co-author
grants.
Service
Service to the university entails work on department, college, and university committees, work groups, and/or campaigns in order to promote and support Augusta University's mission.
Required Qualifications
Candidates should have a PhD degree and a strong publication record. The successful candidate is expected to develop an independent, novel research program, display a commitment to excellence in teaching by participating in graduate and/or undergraduate student teaching.
Assistant Professor- Early level career as a faculty member.
Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
- Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
- Evidence of ability as a teacher;
- Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
- Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
- Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
This position is academic year based and typically works August through May, depending on dates outlined in offer letter and yearly contract.
The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0.
Assistant Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
