Job Description

The Laboratory of Diabetes and Pancreatic Islet Biology Research at the University of Michigan is seeking a Postdoctoral fellow or an experienced Research Scientist for a full-time appointment in Ann Arbor, Michigan. We are looking for highly motivated scientists to work on research projects funded by the US National Institutes of Health (NIH).

The overall goal of our research is to understand molecular mechanism underlying normal function of pancreatic endocrine cells as well as their failure in diabetes mellitus. We also examine the inter-tissue communication between the endocrine pancreas and the liver in the regulation of metabolic homeostasis. Specifically we are interested in how signaling via G-protein coupled receptors regulate cellular function in these tissues. As model systems we use genetically engineered mouse models as well as cellular models including human islet and stem cell-derived cell systems.

Qualifications:
The candidate must have a PhD in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Physiology, Immunology, Cellular and Cancer Biology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biomedical Engineering or related field. Experience with stem cell engineering (e.g., mesenchymal, iPSCs, etc.), molecular and cellular biology techniques, stable cell production and animal work (mice) is highly desired. Fluency in speaking and writing English is required. The candidate must have desire to learn new techniques, write manuscripts/reports/protocols, train students and be able to work independently. The applicant must be able to multitask and be interested in contributing to several other ongoing projects in the lab.

Salary: Salary will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The University of Michigan is a top university and a premier diabetes and metabolism research institute with excellent fellowship support and ample opportunities for young scientists to launch their own independent research careers. We provide an outstanding and rich research environment, which extends to supporting career development including mentorship in preparing manuscripts for publication as well as fellowship and research grant applications.
