Job Description

Summary

The Division of Cardiothoracic Transplant Surgery is seeking a qualified Medical Assistant II to assist with a growing adult cardiac practice. This position will perform patient care and administrative/support responsibilities in a hospital setting.

Job Duties

  • Schedules patient tests, procedures, and appointments. 
  • Conducts patient outreach phone calls and post visit follow-ups. 
  • Manages in-basket and MyChart messages.
  • Tracks, manages, and coordinates patient referrals queue. 
  • Enters orders for patient tests and obtains proper paperwork. 
  • Performs clerical/administrative responsibilities such as filing and/or scanning patient medical records, obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information. 
  • Performs routine patient care responsibilities such as taking vital signs. 
  • Collects patient history, performs medication reconciliation, and enters information in the electronic medical record. 
  • Notes the primary complaint/reason for patient's visit. 
  • Instructs Patients on general care, testing procedures and surgery instructions. 
  • Maintains patient and service rooms in a neat and orderly condition. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant Training program through an accredited institution.
  • Two years of relevant experience.
  • Current certification as a Medical Assistant through an accredited professional organization (AAMA, AMT, ARMA, NCCT, NAHP, NHA, NAHP, AMCA, or NRMA).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through American Heart Association.
