The role of the EPMO Senior IT Project Manager is to plan, execute, and finalize complex enterprise business and IT projects and programs in support of University strategic goals and objectives. The EPMO Senior IT Project Manager will be responsible for simultaneously overseeing, managing, and communicating the status of multiple cross-functional projects and programs to consistently deliver high quality results for the entire organization. They will provide oversight, guidance, and mentorship for EPMO Project Managers and Business Analysts (Management Analyst I), including but not limited to those managing projects within programs the Senior IT Project Manager is responsible for.

A Senior IT Project Manager is often thought of as a more experienced Project Manager. They are entrusted with larger and more complex projects and may be put in charge of several projects at once. They may also have additional responsibilities relating to the management of projects, project managers, and the organization as a whole.

The ideal candidate for an EPMO Senior Project Manager brings a proven track record of managing complex projects, a solid understanding of project management and technology, and strong leadership and mentoring abilities. Key Roles and Responsibilities:
Ensures appropriate project documentation is maintained in accordance with University and State of Kansas regulations
Coordination with Facilities/Construction Project Managers on projects with IT components
Consults with business units to identify future business IT needs, determine alignment with University strategic goals and objectives and Enterprise IT needs, and provide reports on such to the EPMO Director and KITS Leadership for escalation
Provide direction and leadership within the EPMO in the absence of the Director of Enterprise Project Management Office
Manage programs consisting of multiple interrelated/interdependent projects, including both management of individual projects and oversight for projects managed by other EPMO Project Managers
Provide coaching, mentorship, and guidance for EPMO Project Managers and Business Analysts
Works with the Director of Enterprise Project Management Office to establish and maintain project management processes consistent with the needs of the organization. Provides project management leadership for initiatives as assigned, including the development of project plans and coordination of project team activities, such as managing and facilitating project meetings and work sessions.
Works closely with business analysts to ensure that data and information management requirements are defined to enable business components to effectively work together.
Consults with business users and works with business analysts to identify business needs, application requirements, and business processes that require reengineering or design.
Translates project requirements into detailed project plans.
Effectively communicates project expectations and statuses to team members and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion.
Creates reports and presentations for management and executives to provide updates, gain buy-in, achieve acceptance, and obtain key decisions.
Work with business analysts to provide analysis to support the planning phase of the project so that project costs and ROI are clearly understood and so that appropriate prioritization can be assigned.
Creates project budgets and consults with the business unit and business analysts to prepare cost/benefit models.
Prepares project planning documents, schedules and plans, procurement plans, project charters, and project scope statements.
Facilitates post-project ’Lessons Learned’ and creates recommendations report to identify successful and unsuccessful project elements.
Proactively manages changes in project scope, identifies potential risks, manages issues and devises mitigation and contingency plans.
Coaches, mentors, motivates and supervises project team members and contractors, and influences them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or four years of experience.
5 or more years of relevant project management experience (in addition to Bachelor’s degree or related experience), including some combination of the following:
Demonstrated mastery of project management principles and methodologies including successful implementation of projects in a complex organization
Demonstrated ability to plan and manage strategically in the context of a large organization’s information, communications, business process and technical environments
Experience with custom development, cloud technologies, and both traditional and agile methodologies
Demonstrated experience with quality assurance, security, testing, and development environments.
Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and effectively in a team environment.
Demonstrated ability to work on multiple concurrent priorities.
Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification
Strong oral and written communication, organizational and interpersonal skills, including the ability to facilitate, collaborate and present to/with senior medical center administrators, faculty and staff
