Position Description
The Franklin lab at Harvard Medical School in the Department of Immunology has a position open for a Research Assistant III. Dr. Franklin and her team investigate the role of the immune system in laboratory models of infection, tissue damage, and cancer (learn more at www.ruthfranklinlab.com).

This position is made up of four important roles:
  1. Lab management (oversight of equipment and supplies, chemical and biological safety, and lab-wide communications; 30%);
  2. Experimental support (assist laboratory members in preparing for and conducting experiments; 25%);
  3. Mouse colony maintenance (help maintain mouse colony by tracking and genotyping animals; 20%);
  4. Administrative support for Dr. Franklin (manage calendars and travel, process reimbursements; 25%).

The candidate will receive training as needed in lab procedures, including molecular biology techniques, animal work, and Biosafety Level 2 (BSL2) practices. The successful candidate will be willing to learn and independently perform a variety of laboratory techniques, perform administrative tasks, work with mice, collaborate in a team setting, and be enthusiastic about research.
Basic Qualifications
  • College background and at least two years of experience working in a biology laboratory. Relevant coursework may count toward experience.
  • Willing to work with mice.
Additional Qualifications and Skills
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • The ideal candidate would also have prior knowledge of molecular biology and immunology techniques (PCR, cell culture, flow cytometry, etc.) and experience handling mice.
  • Other preferred qualifications include exceptional organizational skills, strong attention to detail, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a desire to work in a team setting, and a passion for scientific research and discovery.

This is an in-person position based on our campus in Boston.
