Job Description

Summary

A post-doctoral fellow position is immediately available for a highly motivated candidate in Dr. Pedro A Piedra's lab, Department of Molecular Virology and Microbiology, Baylor College of Medicine. The candidate will be advancing our NIH sponsored research in the human organoid systems. The ideal candidate will have expertise in analyzing large scale genomics, transcriptomics dataset and develop assays to characterize human airway organoids to better understand the pathogenesis of human respiratory viruses (RSV, SARS-CoV-2 and other respiratory viruses).

Job Duties

  • Plans, directs and conducts specialized and advanced research experiments.
  • Evaluates and analyzes data.
  • May establish new research protocols and procedures.
  • Summarizes research findings and publish results in research journals. 
  • May be responsible for laboratory operations.
  • May supervise research staff.

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD/MD degree in Life Sciences or related field with a strong background and knowledge in the field of either immunology and/or virology.
  • Experience in handling large scale datasets, writing and generating codes in R, R studio or other relevant data analysis tools.
  • Knowledge and experience in working with viruses, and organoid cultures or co-culture systems.
  • Experience with R, python and GraphPad software or similar software to analyze the multi-parameter transcriptomics data.
  • Familiarity with databases, omics study and the host response to respiratory infection is a plus.
  • Strong team player with excellent communication skills and fluency in English, both spoken and written.
