Organizational Unit Overview
The Obstetric hospitalist (aka laborist) physicians will provide inpatient ObGyn care at ECU Health Medical Center. Physicians working in these positions can work 14 (12 hour) shifts per month, or 7 (24 hour) shifts per month. The shifts will include weekend and holiday coverage as required. These positions are a new a new addition to our approach to providing efficient, effective, and high-quality care to our patients.

The mission of the Department of OB GYN encompasses the triad of academic medicine: leadership in patient care, teaching of medical students and resident physicians, and the pursuit of clinical and basic science research. The department supports a four-year, fully accredited residency in obstetrics and gynecology and provides education for medical students on a continual basis. The Vision is to be the best rural academic OBGYN program in the country. Our mission is to make eastern CN a healthy place for women and infants to live and thrive, and our goal is to develop clinicians who through clinical practice, teaching service and research lead regionally in providing OBGYN care, becoming a national model for clinically effective and innovation women’s healthcare.
The Department of OB GYN currently includes: 11 OB GYN in the General OB GYN Division, 4 in the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Division, 1 Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. Additional sub-specialists include: 1 GYN Oncologist, 1 Urogynecologist. In addition, there are 3 Certified Nurse Midwives.

Job Duties
OBGYN Hospitalist responsibilities include evaluation and management of patients in the OB-ED and L&D, attending deliveries, and assisting in the care of patients of community OB/GYNs. Responsibilities also include performing surgical procedures, performing inpatient gynecological consults, and managing gynecologic emergencies. Additionally, hospitalists will be actively involved in the teaching and supervising of medical students, residents, and multidisciplinary team members providing clinical care.

Fixed Term or Tenure Track position available at the title/rank of Clinical Assistant Professor/Assistant Professor, Clinical Associate Professor/Associate Professor, or Clinical Professor/Professor.

12 month position with anticipated start date of 8.1.23.

Contingent upon availability of funds.
Minimum Education/Experience
Candidates must possess an MD or DO degree from an accredited institution

Candidates must be eligible for medical practice in the State of North Carolina by the time of employment.

Candidates must qualify for medical staff privileges at ECU Health Medical Center

Candidates must have successful completion of OBGYN residency, be board certified or eligible with the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and have a minimum of 1 year of clinical practice.
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation
