What Your Job Will Be Like: We are seeking a motivated Mechanical Technologist to join a team providing support for creative training and explosive testing to counter strategic threats. Join us and help develop modern solutions to enhance our nation's security! On any given day, you may be called on to: + Maintain chemical waste, hazardous waste, fleet inspections, maintenance, and disposition. + Maintain sites and facilities to enable a professional and safe atmosphere for the team and its customers. + Perform mechanical fabrication (i.e., welding, cutting, machining). + Operate heavy equipment (i.e., forklift, boom lift, skid-steer). + Potential travel opportunities. Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite. Qualifications We Require: High school diploma plus three (3) or more years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with the following: + Law enforcement and/or DOJ. + General mechanics, such as portable hand tool usage. + High-consequence field testing operations. + Forklift Certification Active DOE Q-level security clearance. Qualifications We Desire: Experience with the following: + Engineered Safety principles and practices or Work Planning and Control Processes. + Hazardous material inspections and inventory management. + Field test and/or training environments and facilitating field testing. + Experience with back country skiing and exercises. About Our Team: The Energetic Threats and Training Department serves the nation's need for energetic threat assessments for WMD first responders. 6646 serves customers from DoD, DOJ, DHS, NNSA, and others by designing and developing inert improvised nuclear devices. Additionally, the department performs large scale threat with real world training venues and scenarios locally at Site 9940 as well as offsite. Posting Duration: This posting will be open for application submissions for a minimum of seven (7) calendar days, including the ‘posting date’. Security Clearance: Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted. Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Position Information: This Limited Term Employee (LTE) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to a maximum of seven years. Individuals in LTE positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
