Job Summary
Position Highlights:
- The Licensing Specialist will provide assistance in the protection and licensing of Moffitt's intellectual assets. This position will engage faculty and staff to identify new intellectual property. The Licensing Specialist will assist with performing patentability and market potential assessment on new technologies.The licensing Specialist will collaborate with patent counsel on patent preparation and prosecution. This position will be responsible for preparing marketing materials and executing marketing campaigns for licensing opportunities.
Responsibilities:
- Conducts patent and scientific literature searches to find relevant IP
- Supports meetings by creating agendas, taking meeting minutes, and tracking action items.
- Completes comprehensive analysis of new inventions to determine if patent protection should be pursued
- Reviews and provides feedback on draft patent applications and USPTO Office Actions
- Prepares technology summaries in different formats and executes marketing campaigns
- Gathers business information on potential licensing partners
- Assists with planning events to promote Moffitt's research and innovations
Credentials and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree - field of study: Life Sciences or related field
- In lieu of a Bach's degree, an associate degree in Life Science or related field of study with an additional 2 years of scientific and/or business development experience for a total of 4 years of an equivalent combination of experience may be considered
- 1 year of scientific experience and 1 year of business development exp
- Scientific experience may include performing laboratory, translational, clinical, and observational research.
- Business development experience may include licensing technologies, forging industry collaborations, creating/growing new ventures, and protecting intellectual property
