Job Description

We invite applications for a faculty position in the Laboratory of Biochemical Pharmacology under the leadership of Dr. Raymond F. Schinazi, within the Center for Viroscience and Cure (CVC) in the Department of Pediatrics, School of Medicine, Emory University (Atlanta, GA).

The mission of CVC is to improve the lives of the many who are battling acute, chronic and difficult-to-treat virus infections through the discovery and development of novel, effective and safe antiviral small molecule inhibitors. To achieve this mission, we perform cutting-edge basic science research to identify novel viral targets, host-virus interactions, mechanisms of drug action, and mechanisms of drug resistance. Set in a highly multi-disciplinary environment, we employ innovative research tools in the areas of medicinal chemistry, structural and molecular biology, enzymology, virology, and cellular pharmacology to address current gaps and challenges in therapeutic drug development against viral agents such as SARS-CoV-2, HIV, HBV, HCV, enteroviridae, influenza, RSV, dengue, zika, ebola, chikungunya and other emerging viruses. Other areas of focus include chronic liver disease, cancer and opportunistic parasitic and bacterial infections. We also develop high-throughput cell-based and cell-free technologies and research tools that are a critical component of the drug discovery process. Finally, our pilot programs promote interdisciplinary collaborations, and support our faculty in establishing NIH- and extramurally-funded research programs.

The faculty member will work in partnership with the Co-Directors and the Senior Scientific Advisor of CVC (Dr. Raymond Schinazi) to develop, promote, implement and achieve the Center’s strategic plans for research. Responsibilities will include oversight and management of the academic, financial, operational, and administrative functions of the Center; coordinating and preparing collaborative group science grant proposals; management of equipment, space, and other shared resources, and other duties as assigned.

Salary and faculty rank will be commensurate with experience and accomplishments. Eligible candidates will have: a PhD degree in Microbiology/Virology, Biochemistry, or another biomedical science discipline. The successful candidate will have significant experience in working with and leading teams, grant proposal preparation, management of lab operations, experience with the biotech/pharma industry landscape, demonstrated leadership in strategic planning, resource allocation, oversight of financial portfolios, and working with diverse teams in the academic research setting.
