Performs independent analysis, investigation, and planning of specific engineering criteria, characteristics and features to meet assignment goals. Responsible for the overall development and application of scientific and/or engineering theories, methods, and research techniques in the investigation and solution of complex technical problems.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs routine engineering investigations in support of current research or product development efforts using engineering software analysis tools.
  • Plans and directs special projects or phases of projects within an assigned engineering or scientific functional area.
  • Conducts investigations involving advanced scientific and/or engineering theories, concepts, methods, management, or research.
  • Prepares design sketches or drawings for components, sub-assemblies, processes or equipment using CAD or 3-D solid modeling software.
  • Assists with the design, development, and evaluation of prototype medical devices, equipment, and software.
  • Develops specific design methodology or analyses for research and/or development initiatives.
  • Establishes and defines the theoretical basis and principles which should apply, the empirical test procedures to be used, and an estimate of the proper level of resources required for completion of these special projects.
  • Develops and manages major program costs and schedule goals.
  • Assists with preparation and evaluation of test protocols and test specimens.
  • Prepares charts, graphs and other documentation in support of articles for publication, project reports and grant applications.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • Bachelor's of Science Degree in Biomedical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Advanced degree highly desirable, or Master's Degree with six years of experience.

Certifications:

  • None required.

Complexity of Work:

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Work Experience:

  • A minimum of eight years of directly related experience in advanced engineering or scientific research and development, or project management.

Physical Requirements:

  • Duties may require some bending, lifting, standing, and sitting for long periods.
  • Possible exposure to animal tissue, blood borne pathogens, chemical and biological reagents, and moving mechanical and electrical components.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $40.48

Maximum hourly: $61.74

The pay range displayed on this job posting reflects the anticipated range for new hires. While the pay range is displayed as an hourly rate, Cleveland Clinic recruiters will clarify whether the compensation is hourly or salary. A successful candidate's actual compensation will be determined after taking factors into consideration such as the candidate's work history, experience, skill set, and education.
