Job Description

The department of Computer Science at Ball State University is seeking part-time semester instructors who are qualified to teach face-to-face or online courses in one or more of the following areas: introductory programming, game design and development, web and mobile app development, cybersecurity and secure software design, or data analytics and machine learning.

The Department of Computer Science is seeking new instructors to enhance the educational experience of our students. Our department is growing rapidly, with the launch of five new concentrations: Web & Mobile App Development, Cybersecurity and Secure Software Design, Game Design and Development, Data Analytics & Machine Learning, and General Computer Science. The successful candidate will contribute to the educational growth of our students in one of these areas, ranging from introductory computer science, cybersecurity, and game design, to advanced speciality topics in each concentration area. The department is anticipating a need for multiple instructors (each teaching one or more class sections) the Fall and Spring semesters, and continuing this partnership into the future. This applicant pool will be used for up to one year from the posting date to hire individuals.

Job Function:

The department of Computer Science at Ball State University is seeking part-time semester instructors who are qualified to teach face-to-face or online courses in one or more of the following areas: introductory programming, game design and development, web and mobile app development, cybersecurity and secure software design, or data analytics and machine learning.

Minimum Experience:

Master’s Degree in computer science, cybersecurity, data science, data analytics, or related field from an accredited university by date of appointment; effective written and oral communication skills; evidence of potential for excellence in pedagogical innovation.

In the case where a faculty member does not meet the degree requirements described above, the Department of Computer Science considers the following to be appropriate credentials to be qualified to teach courses at the undergraduate level in Computer Science:
  • A high-quality portfolio/resume/vita demonstrating the knowledge, skills, and dispositions appropriate to the assigned course(s), and, either
    • Significant professional experience related to the subject matter being taught (5 or more years) with a record of research, scholarship, creative activity, relevant certifications, or achievement in industry appropriate to the assigned undergraduate course(s), or
    • Significant instructional experience teaching the subject matter at another accredited university (5 or more years) demonstrating a commitment to educational achievement and improvement through ongoing assessment of student learning appropriate to the assigned undergraduate course(s).

Preferred Experience:

Experience teaching computer science at the university level.
