Job Description

Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida is recruiting a Research Project Manager - Team Science who works collaboratively with Office of Scientific Development (OSD) leadership to catalyze and facilitate teaming activities; work independently to execute detailed capture plans for assigned large team science funding opportunities; conduct team readiness assessments; and assists teams in assembling application for internal support.

 

Position Summary:

The Research Project Manager, Team Science provides comprehensive project management for development of extramural complex scientific proposals and contracts, working collaboratively with faculty from all disciplines of cancer research at Moffitt Cancer Center to deliver highly competitive proposals for submission to federal and nonprofit funding agencies.

 

Key activities of this position include working with faculty to oversee proposal development and submission of complex grants including the development and management of timelines, milestones, deliverables, writing, editing, reviewing, and budgeting. The Research Project Manager also sets and facilitates team meetings; designs and executes file and version control and framework strategies; and coordinates with other internal research administration areas to deliver highly competitive and compliant proposals to funding agencies.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides comprehensive project management for teams developing multi-project proposals and/or contracts including development and management of timelines, meeting facilitation, drafting and writing, figure development, scientific editing, component review, management of deliverables, and budget development.
  • Serves as lead Administrator of multi-project awards as key personnel within the Administrative Core, which includes oversight of logistics, communication, meetings, publications, budget, progress reports, and general project management in collaboration with the Principal Investigator and other core staff.
  • Drafts institutional letters of support (LOS) for complex grant applicants as part of the established LOS review, editing, and signature process.
  • Serves as primary liaison to all internal and external advisory boards for assigned teams, facilitating all planning and evaluation activities both prior to submission and after award.
  • Works collaboratively with faculty and OSD leadership to facilitate team building workshops and develop effective teaming strategies including vision and mission building, team charter building, adoption of team norms, cultivation of psychological safety principles, and design of subsequent action plans.
  • Evaluates team readiness for intramural funding support through Moffitt’s Collaborative Scientific Group designation program and guides preparation and submission of applications and any progress updates.
  • Conducts landscape analyses including assessing team capabilities and gaps; evaluating partners and competitors; and developing comprehensive capture plans with Principal Investigators.
  • Independently designs and builds file and document version control infrastructure and tailored project management software templates.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of the research development field including best practices and methodology in facilitating and administrating team science.
  • Assists in developing best practices, materials, and resources supporting collaborative scientific teams across Moffitt.

 

Credentials and Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree and five (5) years of experience in scientific editing, program planning, and/or project management, inclusive of two (2) years of experience working in a scientific, medical, or academic setting.
    • May count aspects of graduate training in grant and publication writing and project management towards experience requirements.

Preferred Experience

  • Doctoral degree and at least three (3) years of experience in scientific editing, program planning, and/or project management.
  • Graduate-level research in cancer, preferably with a completed postdoctoral fellowship.
  • Demonstrated experience managing diverse and complex proposal teams.
  • Working knowledge of and experience with project and capture management tools.
  • Working knowledge of and experience with graphic design tools such as Adobe Illustrator, BioRender, and Photoshop.
