Senior Foundation Accounting Analyst

Position Highlights:

Reporting to the Manager of Philanthropic Finance Fund Management, the Senior Philanthropic Accounting Analyst is primarily responsible for preparation/maintenance of the Foundation accounting subledger to support accurate and timely fund balances. As a member of the Development Operations team, the Senior Philanthropic Accounting Analyst will work closely with the Manager of Philanthropic Finance Fund Management and other teams across the organization to ensure financial data flows through the Financial Edge accounting system in accordance with Foundation and Finance policies. Responsibilities include the development and maintenance of analytical reports and reconciliations to ensure compliance with Foundation and Finance accounting standards. Areas of emphasis primarily include oversight of significant fund management components and reporting on fund balances. Requires preparation and/or review of reconciliations, journal entries, calculations, reports, and internal controls. The Senior Philanthropic Accounting Analyst will support the continued implementation of Foundation fund management processes and assist the Manager of Philanthropic Finance Fund Management with integrating institutional priorities into the process.

 

Select Responsibilities:

  • Maintain Foundation financial system to ensure fund balances are accurately stated.
  • Monitor and analysis fund balances and subaccounts for accuracy and proper spending according to donor intent.
  • Manage and listing of funds accounts in both Raiser’s Edge and Financial Edge system.
  • Collaborate with Foundation Team to improve fund management processes.
  • Prepare financial analyses.
  • Serves as a financial and forecasting counselor for assigned areas.

Credentials and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree within Accounting or Finance.
  • Four (4) years of accounting, auditing, or financial experience.
  • Preparation of monthly journal entries, reconciliations and fund/account analyses.
  • Assist with end-of-month finance processes.
  • Manage and maintain fund account details in financial systems to ensure completeness and accuracy.
  • Manage the preparation and maintenance of PowerBI Fund Dashboard and Fund Listing Report.
  • Preparation of monthly fund balance reports, disseminating to clinical/research staff, and answering questions.
  • Research fund balances discrepancies and identify appropriate actions to resolve.
  • Assist Accounting Department with monthly reconciliation of fund balances to the general ledger.
  • Collaborate with other Foundation members, provide input as needed, and communicate to team when necessary.
  • Learn the Raiser’s Edge and Financial Edge systems to ensure financial balances are maintained accurately.
  • Develop, manage, and implement a comprehensive process for reviewing and monitoring sub accounts with the Manager of Philanthropic Finance Fund Management and AVP of Development Operations.
  • Communicate with team members across the institution to encourage responsible spending of funds.
  • Review and approve requests for distribution of funds for institutional expenses.
  • Assist with preparation of recurring reconciliations and financial stewardship reports to donors.
  • Assist with preparation of annual IRS 990 and annual endowment interest allocation.
  • Assist with maintenance of departmental budget and quarterly analysis of spend.
  • Deadline and detail oriented with strong analytical/critical thinking skills.
  • Strong documentation skills to support internal controls.
  • Maintains a collaborative work environment and works well with others.

Preferred:

  • Four (4) years of accounting and analytical experience, with two (2) years of documented experience in a non-profit foundation.
  • Advanced knowledge of non-profit accounting; prior experience completing journal entries for revenue and expense accounts.
  • Previous experience working with a Foundation accounting software system, such as Financial Edge as well as a donor database (i.e. Raiser's Edge).
