Summary
The Program in Chemical Biology (PCB) at the University of Michigan looks for applicants for a 75% part-time MS Graduate Coordinator/Advisor position. You will assist the team in ensuring that all MS Cancer Chemical Biology students receive the attention, mentoring, and guidance needed to ensure their success, while managing the administrative needs of the MS program.

You will work with the Director and Associate Directors of the Program in Chemical Biology, and with the Administrative Director, to develop individualized academic and professional goals for a small cohort of MS Cancer Chemical Biology students (~10-20). You will be involved in graduate admissions, MS program administration, identifying and applying for development opportunities with Program leadership, and alumni engagement for PCB.

Note: Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.

The Program in Chemical Biology (PCB), administratively housed within the LSI, is one of the largest free-standing programs of its kind in the United States. The graduate program spans the U-M campus to unite over 70 faculty from 14 departments, and students can pursue a Doctorate (PhD) in Chemical Biology or Master's (MS) in Cancer Chemical Biology. Our interdisciplinary, student-centered approach provides unique flexibility to our graduate students.

Responsibilities*
Prepare and lead review of applications and admissions process for the MS program
Cultivate advising relationships with a cohort of MS students from orientation through to their degree completion, providing guidance on coursework, research, post-graduation applications, and future career plans
Monitor student degree progress and requirements; Maintain student checklists and update student databases
Prepare recruitment materials and advertise the graduate program
Coordinate orientation materials, monthly lunches, graduation reception, and other student events
Provide resources and referrals for students and faculty to ensure academic success
Seek opportunities to collaborate with internal and external units and programs to enhance opportunities for student professional development
Assist the Program Director with identifying and applying for grants and development opportunities
Represent the Program at university meetings and committees (i.e., Rackham graduate coordinators meeting, L-Grad, UM Graduate Advising Group)
Lead Program alumni outreach and engagement activities
Participate in the review and discussion of applications for admission into the PCB PhD program
Participate in Program leadership activities such as weekly staff team meetings, Admission and Operating Committee meetings, and curriculum planning
This position will include an instructional component for which you would receive an additional, separate appointment as a LEO Adjunct Lecturer. LEO Lecturers are covered by a collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers' Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.

Required Qualifications*
MA/MS in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology or related science
1+ years mentoring and advising students in an academic setting
1+ years of administrative experience in a higher education academic setting
Excellent verbal and written skills with a student service focus and demonstrated commitment to creating a positive work environment
1+ year of previous instructional experience, due to the potential for an instructional component
Desired Qualifications*
PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology or a related science
2+ years of experience with and knowledge of graduate academic programs
Prior experience organizing and promoting educational and outreach events in a higher education research setting
Experience identifying funding, writing grants, and development efforts
Knowledge of University organizational structure, applicable procedures, and Wolverine Access
Experience with science education and public outreach
