About the role

  

The Director for Policy & Public Affairs leads our strategic engagement with government stakeholders to drive a pro-innovation, pro-patient environment.   The role coordinates all Corporate Affairs (Policy & Public Affairs, Ext Comms, Patient Advocacy) activities and will represent the function on the Pfizer Netherlands Leadership Team.  This is a senior position responsible for shaping the external environment to advance business priorities, identify risks & opportunities and advocate for funding, policy and legislative change. 

Main responsibilities

  • Develop and execute policy and public affairs strategies that support business goals in key areas such as health prevention/immunisation; healthcare and pharmaceutical expenditure; Netherlands member state positions re EU legislation & policy; and others

  • Assess the impact of the external policy environment on business strategy and provide counsel in business planning decisions (operating plan, business reviews, business development work, etc.) 

  • Ensure Country Leadership and Corporate Affairs leadership as well as other Regional and Global functions/colleagues have timely awareness of policy developments, related positions and activities  

  • Direct and lead engagement with key policy makers, political representatives and their advisors and staff; propose and implement new strategies in response to policy platforms of elected officials

  • Represent Pfizer in key external forums and work closely with trade groups to ensure alignment with Pfizer positions

  • Coordinate all Corporate Affairs activities and represent the function on the Pfizer Netherlands Leadership Team

  • Work closely with Global and Regional policy and public affairs colleagues delivering strategic updates and escalating within the company as appropriate, briefing and preparing materials for HQ leadership

  • Maintain strict compliance with all applicable policies and laws, especially those related to interactions with government official.

  • This is an individual contributor role reporting to the Western Europe Policy & Public Affairs lead, working closely with the Country Manager and leadership team and the Communications Senior Manager.  The role requires ability to ensure internal alignment and to work in a highly matrixed environment.

About you

  • Minimum 15 years’ experience in Netherlands public affairs & policy, with ideally minimum 10 years’ experience in health care

  • Exceptional understanding of the role of public affairs and policy in driving business goals, and a deep understanding of the public policymaking process in the Netherlands

  • Highly networked in the Netherlands external environment, including with government and key stakeholders, with an outstanding, demonstrable ability to develop relationships with key constituencies

  • Proven track record in developing and executing public affairs strategies that have impacted policy, legislation and regulation

  • Highly skilled at anticipating, identifying, and addressing emerging issues and related risks that could impact Pfizer's business in the Netherlands

  • A strong record of being a great team player and collaborator with internal and external stakeholders with the ability to promote cooperation and facilitate problem resolution in a timely, creative and professional manner

  • Outstanding oral and written communications skills in both Dutch and English are essential

  • Demonstrated ability to develop C-Suite communication and convey relevant information at the right time and with the proper context

  • Education: Degree required, ideally in politics, law, business, public health, international policy
