What Your Job Will Be Like:
Are you passionate about your work and want to join a dynamic team that solve ambitious issues for the nation’s security? If so, you could be the highly motivated Weapon System Engineer we seek to join the Sandia Stockpile Production team.
The Sandia Stockpile Production team is part of the Sandia Production Agency that serves the national interest by producing non-nuclear components that require specific scientific and engineering understanding for which there are no industrial analogs. The organization leads the negotiation and communication of complex requirements with ND customers: NNSA, Navy, Air Force, Sandia’s Systems and Sub-Assembly organizations, and next-assembly NSE agencies (Kansas City, Savannah River, Los Alamos, and Pantex). You will use knowledge of component and system level performance requirements to define and negotiate production requirements and lead the transition from the development/qualification phase to the production phase for several technologies. You will apply expertise and experience in one or more engineering subject areas to make judgments crucial to the delivery of the product through activities such as system-level analysis and evaluating competing characteristics between system elements.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
- Plan, conduct, and complete engineering programs for Sandia’s customers and sponsors.
- Serve as the primary representative to customers and partners for ND programs through the negotiation, management, and delivery of all production requirements for several technologies.
- Establish positive relationships with key influencers and collaborate with multi-functional teams including ND Systems, ND Component Engineering teams, and next-assembly NSE agencies.
- Initiate, develop, and implement systems and processes while applying engineering judgment on several technologies.
- Understand the components and production processes for multiple technologies.
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite. Flexible work schedules available when possible.
Salary Range:
$109,300 - $217,400
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require:
- Masters or advanced degree in a STEM field plus (1) or more years related experience, or Bachelors in a STEM field plus (5) years of related experience.
- Active DOE-Q-level security clearance or DOD equivalent to start.
Qualifications We Desire:
- Experience with leading projects or programs through the Nuclear Deterrence system engineering lifecycle.
- Detailed knowledge of and experience with designing systems, subsystems, or components.
- Self-motivated to identify and implement efficiency improvements.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with implementing Sandia policies impacting design, development, and production activities and projects.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with a passion and talent for encouraging constructive working relationships with our customers and stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability in anticipating customer and stakeholder needs.
- Strong oral, written, presentation, and negotiation skills and ability to work effectively in diverse team environments.
About Our Team:
The Component Science, Engineering, and Production Organization (7500), is responsible for the research, design, qualification, production, and surveillance of over one hundred products across three product lines: power sources, explosives, and neutron generators. Our products support both Nuclear Deterrence and Strategic Partnership Program customers. Our workforce is second to none, and our culture of continuous improvement ensures that we will be even more capable tomorrow than we are today.
Posting Duration:
This posting will be open for application submissions for a minimum of seven (7) calendar days, including the ‘posting date’. Sandia reserves the right to extend the posting date at any time.
Security Clearance:
Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.
Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.
EEO:
All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, or veteran status and any other protected class under state or federal law.
NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:
If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.
