What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking an experienced Science & Engineering Program/Project Manager who plans and executes complex science and/or engineering projects which require high-rigor program/project management.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Exercise overall leadership and accountability for the full range of program/project management responsibilities.
  • Lead cross functional teams of scientists and engineers, leaders of all levels, project management professionals, and business staff in a highly matrixed organization.
  • Make technical and programmatic recommendations and decisions in concert with MESA leadership, stakeholder interests and sponsor expectations.
  • Serve as a trusted and informed primary interface to customers and sponsors.
  • Demonstrate awareness of the broader Sandia/NNSA ecosystem through relationships, realized requirements, partnerships and collaboration.
  • Develop, define, and execute project plans, schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
  • Produce project cost estimates and identify strategic programmatic resource requirements.
  • Develop, edit, and/or deliver communications strategies and products to internal and external audiences.
  • Identify, articulate, and manage technical and programmatic risk, including but not limited to supply chain, geopolitical concerns and constraints operations.
  • Identify, articulate and manage programmatic opportunities to achieve a balanced portfolio in the nations best interest.
  • Coordinate with internal and external entities to execute the strategy to ensure US Government access to Warhead Strategic Rad Hard & Trusted Microelectronics.
  • Collaborate with SNL Infrastructure and Operations personnel achieve MESA’s sustainment strategies.
  • Build and maintain trust-based relationships across MESA, Sandia, and with external partners.

The selected applicant can be a remote worker located in any U.S. State or District of Columbia. Regular or periodic travel to your assigned work location may be required.

Salary Range:

$109,300 - $217,400

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM field plus eight (8) years of science & engineering technical experience or;
  • Master’s degree in STEM field plus four (4) years of science & engineering technical experience
  • Current PMP certification or the ability to obtain within 12 months
  • The ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Experience in technical management processes: lifecycle management, requirements engineering, configuration management, risk management, verification and validation, etc.
  • Experience developing tools and processes to optimize technical management of science and engineering projects
  • Demonstrated teaming skills, including the ability to work effectively with leadership at multiple levels, customers, other organizations, and technical leads
  • Demonstrated leadership experience involving large-scale, complex technical and programmatic responsibilities
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interface with management, customers, and stakeholders at all levels
  • Demonstrated technical writing and presentations skills, including an ability to succinctly explain complex technical concepts
  • Experience building relationships and establishing credibility with scientists, engineers and technical project teams
  • Broad knowledge of Sandia’s mission areas and capabilities
  • Experience in large or complex asset management
  • Experience or knowledge of manufacturing in balancing production with construction requirements
  • Knowledge of microsystems, including functionality and survivability requirements, production processes, and the global microelectronics ecosystem

About Our Team:

MESA Sustainment (5290) is charged with ensuring US Government access to Warhead Strategic Rad Hard Microelectronics for the NNSA and other National Security Missions. To achieve this assignment, MESA Sustainment is responsible for planning, coordination and execution of the MESA Extended Life Program (ELP), the MESA Integrated Program Plan (MIPP) and operational assurance and capital investments to ensure MESA capabilities are maintained and strategically sustained through 2040. Operational assurance includes the design, development and implementation of the MESA Comprehensive Operational Resource Environment. Capital investments include the Microelectronics Component Capability (MC2) Line Item and the MESA to MC2 (M2M) bridging strategy. Our team is highly matrixed and is dependent upon effective partnerships within MESA; across MESA customers, sponsors, and stakeholders; and a variety of internal enabling partners.

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
