What Your Job Will Be Like:
The Missile and Strike Systems Group is seeking a well-qualified and hardworking Science & Engineering (S&E) Hypersonics, Project Manager (PM) to support our group’s high-rigor hypersonic and rocket programs. This S&E PM will have a meaningful role in planning and executing complex aerospace engineering projects that require high-rigor management. Primary duties and responsibilities include:
- Connecting with internal Sandia organizations, as well as external customers and suppliers.
- Coordinating work of technical and other project management staff, including project managers and/or project controllers.
- Working in a peer-level relationship with the project technical leads to coordinate project management activities including project plan development and execution, project monitoring and control, and change control.
- Understanding what environmental, physical, or functional performance requirements drive risk and can affect cost or schedule.
- Communicating the system’s functional and physical architecture, functional and physical interfaces, and its performance and qualification results.
- Using understanding of key technologies and systems to ensure that all system requirements are identified, negotiated, and verified with the customer.
- Leading all aspects of task definition and sequencing, duration estimation, and schedule development and control.
- Providing the programmatic voice for the project when delivering information and making presentations.
- Preparing timely and accurate reports which highlight key technical and programmatic issues and summarize information at a manageable level.
- Supervising the identification, analysis, and response planning for project risks and opportunities.
You will lead a team of engineers and other staff in support of various Hypersonic Programs in the Missile and Strike Systems Group, leading a segment of a larger Hypersonic portfolio. The position requires strong leadership skills, experience in various Engineering subject areas, and the ability to parse information and make programmatic decisions.
The selected candidate must have the ability to accommodate moderate travel requirements. Due to the nature of the work, this candidate must be able to work onsite.
Salary Range:
$109,300 - $217,400
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate\'s experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require:
- Bachelor’s degree is a relevant STEM field, plus 8 years of relevant science and engineering experience
- Experience includes 2 or more years of focused leadership in a technical area
- Possess 5 or more years of Science and Engineering technical experience in national security
- Direct experience working with the DoD or other federal agencies
- Current PMP certification or equivalent certification, or the ability to obtain within 12 months
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance
Qualifications We Desire:
- Ability to make decisions requiring scientific or engineering judgment across more than one field
- Experience with bombs, projectiles, rocket systems, and/or ballistic and maneuvering reentry vehicles
- Experience in management practices, assurance processes, business operations, fiscal and scheduling systems, and acquisition standards
- Proven ability to understand and manage complex systems
- Knowledge of aerospace technologies related to unmanned flight systems
- Demonstrated teaming skills, including the ability to work effectively with leadership at multiple levels, customers and other organizations, and technical leads
- Demonstrated capabilities in encouraging external relationships for development of new business opportunities
- Experience with the application of systems engineering to complex design problems
- Experience building relationships and establishing credibility with scientists, engineers, and technical project teams.
- Experience in technical management processes: lifecycle management, requirements engineering, configuration management, risk management, verification and validation, etc.
- Experience developing tools and processes to optimize technical management of science and engineering projects
- Effective skills in leadership, management of personnel, time management, and organization
- Ability to effectively communicate across project controls and business fields, as well as across science and engineering subject areas
- Ability to effectively interface with management, customer, and stakeholders at all levels.
- Demonstrated technical writing and presentation skills, including an ability to succinctly explain complex technical concepts
- Demonstrated leadership experience involving technical and programmatic responsibilities.
About Our Team:
The Missile and Strike Systems Group (5420) designs, develops, and tests rockets, missiles and hypersonic flight platforms. These systems support the DoD including Army, Navy, Air Force, and other agencies. 5420 has successfully developed and flown hypersonic systems for the nation and is extending our role to enable fieldable systems for the Army and Navy.

Position Information:
This Limited Term Employee (LTE) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia\'s discretion up to a maximum of seven years.
Individuals in LTE positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
