What Your Job Will Be Like:
We are seeking a proactive and team-oriented Safeguards and Security (S&S) Planning and Operations Specialist to provide configuration-management support to S&S programs, primarily as the S&S Policy Lead but also as the content administrator for the Security Connection knowledgebase and as a back-up to the S&S Document Controller.
On any given day, you may be called upon to:
- Partner with S&S programs to develop, update, and maintain S&S-related Laboratory policies.
- Advise policy owners regarding their policy requirements/updates.
- Assist policy owners, as appropriate, in coordinating review-and-approval of policy documents.
- Routinely maintain administrative details, metadata, and other non-technical aspects of S&S policies (e.g., periodic checks to ensure all links are active, assigned “Contacts” are correct, cross-references remain valid).
- Coordinate with Requirements Management to ensure requirements effectively flow down from external sources into applicable policies.
- Participate (when requested) in Implementation Plan development to ensure changes to DOE directives are effectively identified for future deployment in policies.
- Participate in Laboratory Policy Management (LPM) initiatives (e.g., strategic improvement activities, policy-system reviews, periodic system upgrades).
- Assist LPM with continuous improvement of the tools they use to manage Laboratory policies.
- Facilitate collaborative efforts among interdisciplinary subject matter experts across the S&S programs.
- Review and report on performance metrics in web-based tools such as SharePoint.
- Interpret information, advising management, and recommending actions regarding documentation issues.
- Assist document owners with creation, revision, and maintenance of S&S controlled documents, which include technical content associated with all security disciplines.
- Edit controlled documents upon request (as practicable).
- Facilitate retirement of obsolete controlled documents and policies.
- Maintain the S&S Controlled Documents Library to ensure content is accessible to those who need it.
- Ensure all S&S controlled documents are properly filed in EIMS FileNet.
- Administer/maintain content in the Security Connection knowledgebase.
- Address requests for new and revised knowledgebase articles (KBAs) received from customers, program owners, and Security Connection Representatives (SCRs).
- Coordinate with IT professionals to ensure the knowledgebase remains accessible and bug-free.
- Recommend new KBAs and revision or retirement of existing KBAs to ensure the knowledgebase remains an effective, useful resource for Members of the Workforce.
- Coordinate with SCRs to ensure the knowledgebase meets their unique needs.
- Assist with drafting security-related communications for dissemination.
- Identify appropriate venues for individual communications.
- Facilitate publication of security-related information via the Sandia Daily News, the Lab News, LeaderWire, and other venues, as appropriate.
- Develop posters, fact sheets, newsletters, and other unique forms of communication.
- Participate in meetings and as part of special teams to ensure policy and other requirements are understood and effectively implemented, and to ensure programmatic initiatives are identified (which may need to be communicated via policy or in other venues).
- Ensure other security professionals are informed of changes being communicated through the above-cited venues—e.g., Deployed Security Professionals, the Security Awareness Coordinators, and others may need to know in advance of pending policy changes or newly developed KBAs.
Due to the nature of the work, this candidate must be able to work onsite.
Salary Range:
$81,900 - $157,500
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate\'s experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Communications, Technical Writing, Security, plus 5 years experience
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q level security clearance
Qualifications We Desire:
- Experience with configuration management (to include document control) and the following tools: MS Word, Excel, and SharePoint
- Demonstrated ability to apply varying levels of editorial rigor (e.g., copy, structural, developmental) to S&S policies, plans, and documents.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully coordinate and complete multiple projects and tasks
- Demonstrated ability to exercise personal initiative and work independently on multiple concurrent activities to meet a variety of customer requirements with changing priorities and short deadlines
- Demonstrated ability to apply critical-thinking skills to synthesize disparate detailed data into useful information, such as developing information for reports and presentations
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to clearly and concisely communicate complex issues both in writing and verbally
- Self-motivation and demonstrated ability to initiate work, solve problems, and achieve results with minimal direction and supervision
- Continuous program- and process-improvement skills
- Familiarity with Sandia programs, policies, organizations, procedures, and administrative systems
About Our Team:
Org. 9213, S&S Contract Security and Requirements Operations, is part of Sandia’s Safeguards & Security (S&S) Center, whose primary function in support of Sandia’s mission is to provide Members of the Workforce with tools and assistance needed to ensure the protection of information, resources, and people. We strive to develop strategic partnerships with the goal of fully integrating security into every aspect of the work performed at Sandia. The S&S Contract Security and Requirements Operations Department comprises Contract Security Management (CSM), Requirements Management (RM), Controlled Documents, S&S Training, and S&S Policy. The department is responsible for ensuring effective flow-down of security requirements (e.g., from external sources such as DOE directives) and conveying appropriate requirements and guidance to affected programs, as well as to all Members of the Workforce via the Laboratory Policy System. The department also maintains the Security Connection knowledgebase, which ensures that Members of the Workforce have the supplemental information and guidance they need to perform their work in a secure manner.

Security Clearance:
