MUD Search Technologist - Histocompatibility Laboratory (Full-Time, Days)

Seeking a skilled Matched Unrelated Donor (MUD) Search Technologist for a full time days position, Monday to Friday, 8 am to 4:30 pm. Utilize Medical Technology expertise to coordinate unrelated donor searches for transplant patients, working closely with medical and nursing teams, HLA Lab staff, and Marrow Donor Financial Specialist.

As a successful candidate, you will:

  • Oversee the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) search process for potential donors, ensuring thorough documentation of each step.
  • Access databases such as NMDP and other registries to find optimal matches for transplant patients, employing Trans Link or manual methods when necessary.
  • Utilize deep understanding of HLA typing processes to identify matches, considering factors such as family inheritance patterns, testing methods, and confirmatory typing.
  • Devise search strategies based on antigen groups, cross-reactive antigens, and common associations among DR antigens and alleles to optimize donor selection.
  • Respond to challenging searches by conducting timely repeat typing, running customized search lists, and referencing available literature to ensure accurate matching.
  • Request potential donor samples, coordinates receipt with laboratories, troubleshoots sample issues, and communicates effectively with stakeholders to ensure continuity of patient care.

Your qualifications should include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • One year related experience as a Medical Technologist, or from a clinical hematopoietic transplant environment.
  • State of California license for any of the following:
    • Clinical Laboratory Scientist (generalist)
    • California Clinical Histocompatibility Scientist (limited)
    • Clinical Genetic Molecular Biologist Scientist (limited)

Salary / Pay Rate Information:
Pay Rate: $41.92 - $64.97 / hour
