Job Description

The Applied Materials Division (AMD) at Argonne National Laboratory conducts applied research to develop sustainableinnovative technologiestoimprovethe efficiency of resource and energy utilization; to minimize our dependence on imported energy; and to enhance our national security. Within this division exists a group that performs cost and environmental impact analysis to help with process optimization and scale up.

A Visiting Professor/Scientist is now open for a candidate with experience in the modification of extractants, such as crown ether derivatives, to recover lithium and other ions from solid or liquid matrices. Work will be collaborative with the members in Materials Recycling R&D and Separations and Bioprocessing Group.

Position Requirements

  • Advanced degree in chemistry with 20+ years of experience

  • Experience with data collection, processing, analysis, and presentation

  • Good understanding of lithium sources and separations of lithium from these sources

  • Understanding of lithium-ion batteries, their supply chain and recycling processes

  • Ability to work well within a team of experts in various areas of expertise

  • Skilled in oral and written communications with peers, colleagues, and collaborators.

  • Ability to model Argonne’s core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork.

  • Ability to make our laboratory a safe, welcoming, inclusive, and accessible environment where all can thrive.
