JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Health Disparities Data Analyst advances and supports investigator-initiated projects that have health disparities, Social Determinants of Health (SDoH) and/or health equity factors as the primary research outcome. The position will be housed within the University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine’s Office of Research Support and is responsible for the growth of research activities in the field of health disparities and health equity throughout the institution. This position collaborates with the Director of Research, study investigators, and senior staff to coordinate the successful development, implementation, data collection, data acquisition, analysis phase, writing, and dissemination of related research study findings.



DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Utilizes expertise in health disparities and SDoH research to increase the output of data and related research throughout the institution.
Engages with individuals across the institution to identify research gaps, opportunities, and develops collaborative research initiatives.
Coordinates with the GSM Office of Biostatistics Director and investigators during the development of Redcap and/or Excel databases for Investigator-Initiated Health Disparities and SDoH research during the data analysis phase.
Collaborates with the Director of Research and other UTHSC research units to grow research activities in the field of rural health and health disparities through collaboration across the University and state.
Identifies potential funding sources for health disparities, equity, and SDoH-driven research.
Write “Health Disparities” sections for IRB protocols prior to submission including data analysis sections.
Coordinates health disparities research teams throughout the grant development and execution process.
Reviews Health Disparities, Healthy Equity, and SDoH-focused grants and IRB protocols and works with investigators to strengthen submissions.
Assists faculty, residents, and fellows with the coordination of database-driven Health Disparities, Health Equity, and SDoH focused projects.
Assists in the preparation of scientific abstracts, scientific posters, and scientific papers for publications and presents research findings at local and national meetings.
Creates, updates, tracks, and maintains study-specific data files, tools, and systems.
Mentor residents, fellows, and colleagues in Health Disparity, Health Equity, and SDoH research methods.
Performs other related duties as assigned.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION: Master’s Degree in Public Health or related field. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of experience in Public Health related research; OR Bachelor’s and four (4) years of experience in Public Health related research. (Previous experience with State and Federal Funding Agencies preferred.)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of scientific principles and prior research experience.
Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, Adobe Professional, PowerPoint).
Excellent communication skills.
Skill in public speaking and presenting information.
Experience with the preparation of IRB applications.
Experience and well-versed, with research methodologies and data software such as SPSS, R, SAS, REDCap, etc.
Experience with the preparation of grant proposals.
Experience in creating successful team collaborations
WORK SCHEDULE: This position may occasionally be required to work weekends and evenings. May require occasional overnight travel.
