This role oversees the Medical Foundation revenue cycle process from point of service to account resolution. This position provides leadership and management of daily operations, including billing, charge entry, collections, financial counseling, and customer services. The Director, PBS/Revenue Cycle leverages technology and is responsible for the continual evaluation and improvement of processes to create better patient experiences, physician satisfaction and education, and a more efficient, stable revenue cycle department.

As a successful candidate, you will:

Revenue Cycle Management

  • Provide leadership and direction in billing, collections, customer services, payment posting, refunds/credits, and physician education. Revenue cycle to meet key metrics for days in A/R, cash collections, A/R aging and CDM maintenance. Monitor the performance of all PBS functions. Establish appropriate revenue goals and monitor annual operating revenues.
  • Oversee the development and update of policies and procedures. Develop internal and external communications and reports as needed.
  • Present or support the gathering and analysis of information on PBS development and performance to MF and Medical Center Executive Leadership, Board of Directors and other committees.
  • Responsible for monitoring monthly and annual departmental budgets. Provide data and feedback to revenue cycle to improve inefficiency and to reduce denials and improve organizational efficiency.
  • Evaluates potential “make/buy” decisions where outsourcing vendors and support activities are being explored

Technology Systems Management

  • Evaluates and implements new technology and acts as a catalyst for change to meet current and future business needs.
  • Provide subject matter and technical expertise in the design and implementation of EMR in Revenue Cycle and related applications.
  • Identifies, proposes, designs and implements applications which will enhance accounts receivable processes.

Personnel Management

  • Engage, develop, and manage the performance of the leaders within the PBS/Revenue Cycle department
  • Attract, retain and develop quality management and other team members, while providing leadership and serving as a role model
  • Directly and indirectly oversee the hiring, training, engagement and termination of employees.
  • Communicate effectively with staff to keep them informed of changes within and outside applicable departments
  • Facilitates a cross-training work force to build a cohesive work environment.
  • Utilizes strong communication skills and cultural competencies to maintain with sensitivity in a culturally diverse work force.
  • Design programs to attract and retain the best staff, develop a culture of pride and ownership and provide opportunities for learning and growth.

Quality and Compliance

  • Ensures that service and work quality meet required COH, state and federal rules and regulations.
  • Utilizes work quality monitoring to ensure that policies and procedures, objectives, performance improvement, attendance, safety and environment, and infection control guidelines are followed.
  • Participate in quality studies through data collection.
  • Make recommendations and take actions to improve structure, system or outcomes.
  • Ensures that compliance to rules, regulations, operations, contracts, internal and external rules, state and federal requirements are met.

Your qualifications should include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • 7+ years relevant experience, preferably in leading a professional revenue cycle department/function
  • 5 years of experience in a leadership capacity.
  • Preferably: Master’s Degree (MPH, MPA, MBA). Prior experience in Healthcare required, preferably with a large multi-specialty physician practice and or medical foundation.
  • Physician practice management, including revenue cycle and billing systems, benchmarking data, and leading change initiatives.

Salary / Pay Rate Information:
Pay Rate: $65.35 - $109.13 / hour

The estimated pay scale represents the typical [salary/hourly] range City of Hope reasonably expects to pay for this position, with offers determined based on several factors which may include, but not be limited to, the candidate’s experience, expertise, skills, education, job scope, training, internal equity, geography/market, etc. This pay scale is subject to change from time to time.
