Summary

We are seeking an experienced Clinical Laboratory Supervisor to lead and manage our high-complexity clinical laboratory operations. The ideal candidate will provide technical and scientific oversight, supervise daily activities, and ensure compliance with all regulatory standards, including CLIA guidelines. Key responsibilities include overseeing high-complexity testing, implementing quality control programs, developing standard operating procedures, and collaborating with the Laboratory Director on new test developments. This role requires strong leadership skills, the ability to mentor and motivate staff, and a commitment to excellence in laboratory practices and patient care.

Job Duties

  • Provide general, technical, and scientific oversight of the laboratory, managing daily activities and supervising personnel performing testing and reporting results.
  • Oversee high-complexity testing by qualified personnel, ensuring adequate staffing and assigning work responsibilities.
  • Remain accessible to testing personnel at all times, providing on-site, telephone, and electronic consultation to resolve technical issues.
  • Assist lab staff with clinical testing and perform clinical laboratory analyses as needed.
  • Develop and implement standard operating procedures and laboratory policies, collaborating with the Laboratory Director on compliance standards and new test developments, and translating new techniques from research to clinical applications in accordance with federal regulations.
  • Select appropriate test methodologies for clinical use, verify test procedures, and establish performance characteristics including precision and accuracy.
  • Establish and maintain a quality control program, ensuring acceptable levels of analytic performance throughout the testing process, monitoring test analyses to maintain standards, ensuring turnaround times are met, and resolving assay problems promptly.
  • Participate in an HHS-approved proficiency testing program; ensure proficiency and parallel testing are performed with corrective actions as needed.
  • Resolve technical problems and ensure remedial actions are taken when test systems deviate from established specifications; verify that patient test results are not reported until all corrective actions are completed and test systems function properly.
  • Oversee equipment maintenance and regulatory standards, ensuring proper functioning, maintaining contracts, and documenting all occurrences and maintenance activities.
  • Ensure compliance with all CLIA guidelines, maintaining and documenting records; provide information to government inspectors during laboratory visits.
  • Provide orientation to all testing personnel; identify training needs and ensure staff receive regular in-service training; coach, mentor, motivate, and lead staff to promote accountability; evaluate competency regularly, conducting required evaluations, and ensure competency assessments comply with CLIA regulations.
  • Manage laboratory supplies and inventory to ensure timely deliveries without reagent or supply shortages.
  • Interact with vendors, referring laboratories, and external testing personnel; advise on purchase agreements; assist in defining assay costs and managing economic aspects.
  • Oversee sperm sample retrievals, transfers, and semen-related shipments, ensuring timely processing.
  • Maintain laboratory computer records and documentation.
  • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Three years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a chemical, physical, or biological science or medical technology from an accredited institution.
  • Four years of laboratory training or experience, or both, in high complexity testing.
