The Communication Department seeks to hire a per-course faculty member to teach Comm 200, Communication Theory, in the Spring of 2025.
This course will be taught on the Moraga campus, in person, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:15am - 10:30am during the 2025 Spring term.
Course Description
Communication Theory
This course provides students with a review of major theories application to communication among individuals, within organizations, in politics and in the media. Through readings and discussion of seminal core texts, students are encouraged to judge for themselves the strong and weak portions of alternative concepts, models and theoretical concepts, as well as to evaluate the empirical methods from which these theories are derived.
This course satisfies the Writing in the Disciplines requirement of the Core Curriculum.
Qualifications:
Candidates should have a graduate degree (PhD or equivalent preferred) in Communication or related field with evidenced teaching experience. The position requires a familiarity with and commitment to the Communication field, student-centered teaching, and a liberal arts education, as well as an appreciation of and respect for the social justice oriented learning/teaching environment St. Mary's fosters as a Lasallian educational institution.
Candidates must reside in California.
The salary is $7,447 - $10,308 depending on qualifications. The salary range for this position is covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the College and SEIU, Local 1021, available here.
