Summary

The Department of Molecular Virology and Microbiology at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a candidate for a Postdoctoral Associate to conduct original research in intestinal regeneration and repair with a focus on the intestinal stem cell. This project utilizes state of the art organoid and animal models systems combined with computational and cell biology-based approaches to investigate the response of the intestinal stem cell to damage caused by viral infections and exposure to radiation. The ideal candidate will have substantial knowledge of intestinal biology and bioinformatic analysis pipelines and be able to creative think. A desire to join and work with a large highly collaborative research team exploring human intestinal biology is also necessary. They will benefit from collaborations with leading experts in the field of intestinal stem cell biology. The Department of Molecular Virology and Microbiology is a multidisciplinary and highly collaborative environment with a strong emphasis on basic science research and translating these findings into practical applications to prevent and treat infections.

Job Duties

  • Generates new experimental paradigms; be able to design controlled experiments.
  • Analyzes molecular data including computational tools associated with omics information.
  • Be up-to-date with the latest literature; participates in group meetings to discuss findings.
  • Writes scientific manuscripts and grants.
  • Presents one’s research results and conferences.

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with iPSC/embryonic or tissue derived stem cell derived organoid cultures
  • Background in intestinal biology
  • Mastery of molecular biology techniques including sterile technique/tissue culture
  • Interest in pursuing bioinformatic based analysis
