Job Description
Summary
The Research Coordinator II will conduct day to day activities of research projects focusing on improving the health of people with rheumatic diseases. These activities include screening, enrollment, and monitoring of research participants; overseeing participants as they complete surveys; gathering biological samples (if required); reviewing medical records; and ensuring accurate data collection and documentation; preparing and completing all regulatory requirements for the study including the Institutional Review Board and regulatory agency submissions. The research coordinator will also assist with protocol amendments and preparing research reports as needed.
Responsible for screening, recruiting, and consenting research participants. This involves identifying patients from medical records or from self-referral; contacting patients in the clinic for the purpose of recruitment, explaining and educating patients about the study protocol, and registering study participants in the protocol. Recruitment will be at McNair campus, Veterans Affairs Medical Center or Ben Taub Hospital in most cases.
Schedules research participants for research visits and intervention sessions as per the protocol, ensures subjects complete study milestones, and conducts follow-up research visits as per the protocol. complete study milestones and conducts follow-up research visits as per the protocol.
Requires on-site work 40 hours per week; no regular telework is allowed.
Job Duties
85% of the time
- Assists the participant in completing surveys as per the research protocols.
- Coordinates meetings and communications with other research site teams; ensures timely recruitment of patients and meeting milestones.
- Performs other job duties as assigned.
10% of the time
- Collects biological samples (saliva, urine, blood, stool etc.) as per the research protocols.
- Completing all regulatory requirements for the study including the Institutional Review Board and regulatory agency submissions.
- May assist with protocol amendments in BRAIN and preparing research reports as needed.
5% time
- Performs electronic or on-site audits of records and enrollment and follow-up at each participating study site, as per the study Manual of procedures.
- Assists the PI in preparing annual progress reports for the funding agency as per the requirements, grant submission process and in updating study protocol and manual of procedures.
- Develops study recruitment materials.
- Performing Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement data reports and creating queries to ensure data integrity.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related field.Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
- One year of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a public health or related field.
- Certification or documented training in phlebotomy preferred.
- Prior experience as a clinical research coordinator in clinical/medical settings.
- Fluent in English required; Spanish fluency preferred.
