Position Description

The HMS Therapeutics Initiative is seeking a dynamic Scientific Project Manager for Translational Research Programs with broad scientific background, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a passion for applying science toward the therapies of tomorrow. The Scientific Project Manager will report to the Senior Director of Translational Research, supervise a group of project managers, and serve as a key member of the Therapeutics Initiatives drug discovery program.

As a member of the Therapeutics Initiatives project management team, the Senior Project Manager will work primarily on two initiatives:

• Successful applications of award programs such as the Quadrangle Fund for Advancing and Seeding Translational Research (Q-FASTR) program, the Blavatnik Therapeutics Challenge Awards (BTCA), and the Harvard/Ono research alliance.
• Projects supported through The Drug Discovery Sciences Core (DDSC) and the HMS Therapeutics Translator.

The Scientific Project Manager will closely collaborate with HMS and the affiliated institutions to enable the achievement of research deliverables, enable teams to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment, and exhibit a high degree of integrity, demonstrating professionalism at all times and handling confidential information.

Specific job responsibilities include:

• Manage and facilitate execution of grants through a variety of in-house and outsourced capabilities, with the goal of finding suitable partners to move the project toward development.
• Lead scientific and operational management of designated translational research projects, including:

• Monitor project milestones, deliverables, and timelines.
• Draft quarterly reports and/or slide decks as needed.
• Track expenses and project budgets.
• Communicate effectively with scientific researchers.

• Support the Senior Director with the extensive request for proposals (RFP) and award processes for translational research programs.
• Manage and mentor 1-2 direct reports, such as scientific project managers.
• Supervise daily scientific project tasks for DDSC clients.
• Other tasks as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

• Ph.D. degree in the life sciences required.
• At least 7 years of relevant experience in positions involving project management, alliance management, scientific/technical evaluation ore related field.

Additional Qualifications and Skills

• Industry project management and/or drug discovery experience preferred.
• Supervisory experience preferred.
• Strong competencies in planning, project management, outsourcing, resource management and organization with the ability to coordinate multiple activities and resources, while maintaining a focus on quality.
• Ability to function effectively and independently in a fast-paced environment, organize and prioritize work, and meet tight deadlines.
• Exceptional organizational skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Strong Emotional Intelligence (EQ).
• Solid analytical capabilities and attention to detail.

Additional Information

This is a term position with an end date of November 30, 2027, with the possibility of extension, contingent upon work performance and continued funding to support the position.

Work Format Details

This is a hybrid position that is based in Massachusetts. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. All remote work must be performed within one of the Harvard Registered Payroll States, which currently includes Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, Washington, and California (CA for exempt positions only). Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
