Cancer Bioengineering Researcher 5

Principal Duties and Responsibilities: We have an opening for a research scientist available immediately in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. This position will serve as a cancer bioengineering researcher in the Odde lab under the mentorship and supervision of Dr. David Odde. The primary objective of this position is to conduct live cell imaging studies of cell therapies for cancer.

Work in conjunction with faculty mentor who determines the research agenda. (5%)
-Meet regularly with faculty supervisor, Dr. Odde, to review results and plan next experiments.

Design and carry out experiments and analyze data (70%)
-Conduct cell culture, live cell microscopy/imaging, and quantitative data analysis.
-Work directly with therapy developers to complete advanced imaging studies that enable preclinical testing and validation of cell-based therapies for cancer.

Prepare and present data to study investigators. (10%)
-Meet with biomedical engineering faculty and their lab members, and other collaborators, to review research progress and future plans.

Author, co-author, and otherwise collaborate on reports, conference papers and journal articles. (10%)
-Prepare preprints and articles for publication in peer-reviewed biomedical engineering journals and journals in related fields.

Lab management and operations (5%)
-Maintain records for the lab, including data, safety, LBC, IACUC, and IRB.

Qualifications
Required:
A Ph.D. in a relevant field of Engineering or Biology or a related field
A demonstrated track record of productive research is required

Preferred:
Expertise in mammalian cell culture, live cell imaging via fluorescence and transmitted light microscopy, cloning, gel electrophoresis, DNA & RNA purification, and statistical analysis of data.
Experience with basic project management concepts

This position is located in the Department of Biomedical Engineering, which is an undergraduate and graduate degree granting academic and research unit within the College of Science &
Engineering. BME has 22 core faculty with additional affiliated faculty from other departments. Department researchers explore the following areas of emphasis: bioinstrumentation and
medical devices, biomaterials and micro/nanofabrication, biomechanics, biomedical optics and imaging, biomolecular, cellular and tissue engineering, cancer bioengineering, cardiovascular
engineering, neural engineering.
