Job Description
Summary
The Department of Ophthalmology at Baylor College of Medicine in seeking a qualified, highly motivated and creative Research Associate to join the Frankfort lab. The project will use mice to investigate a novel relationship between serotonergic signaling and retinal function, particularly in the context of glaucoma and retinal ganglion cell biology. This is a part-time position, approximately 8 hours per week.
Job Duties
- Plan, direct, and conduct specialized and advanced vision research experiments.
- Evaluate and analyze data.
- Breed and maintain mice for experimental purposes.
- May supervise research staff.
- May establish new research protocols and procedures.
- Summarize research findings and publish results in research journals.
- Performother job related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree in Basic Science or a related field.Experience in lieu of degree will not be accepted.
- Three years of relevant experience typically as a Research Assistant, Research Technician or Postdoctoral Fellow/Associate.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D. in life sciences.
- Experience with vision science, molecular/cellular biology, genetics, physiology, or biochemistry.
- Prior experience in the following areas is strongly preferred: histopathology, advanced in vivo imaging in animal models, transcriptome profiling, and drug delivery.
- Excellent (written and verbal) communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with attention to detail.
- Prior experience in vision research.
- Prior experience with general statistical methods and statistical software (eg. Prism).
- Prior experience with mouse colony management and breeding.
- Prior experience mentoring students or staff.
- Prior presentation and publication history is expected.
