The Georgia Cancer Center at Augusta University is currently seeking a faculty member as an Assistant Research Scientist, Research Scientist, or a Principal Research Scientist. The scientist will work both independently and collaboratively with the PI to investigate the mechanisms of cancer and other diseases, with a particular focus on protein folding and dynamics, protein-protein interactions, and intrinsically disordered proteins. The scientist will also contribute to the screening and development of small molecules-including covalent and non-covalent inhibitors, proteolysis-targeting chimeras (PROTACs), molecular glue degraders (MGDs), and other novel degraders and modulators- for the treatment of cancer, vascular diseases, autoimmune disorders, and neurodegenerative diseases. This position does not meet the requirements to be on a tenure track.
Responsibilities
Duties 1 - 10%
Study protein folding and dynamics, protein-protein interactions, and intrinsically disordered proteins
Duties 2 - 10%
Produce recombinant proteins and antibodies
Duties 3 - 10%
Screen and evaluate small molecule inhibitors and degraders that selectively target proteins involved in cancer and other diseases
Duties 4 - 10%
Characterize novel E3 ligase ligands, protein degraders, chemical probes, and small molecule ligands.
Duties 5 - 20%
Lead the development and optimization of novel chemical biology, biochemical, and biophysical assays
Duties 6 - 10%
Prepare and write research manuscripts; assist the PI with grant proposals and reports.
Duties 7 - 10%
Conduct genome-wide CRISPR screens to study mechanisms and support drug development efforts.
Duties 8 - 10%
Assist the PI with mentoring undergraduate and graduate students
Duties 9 - 10%
Perform general lab maintenance and maintain key laboratory instruments.
Required Qualifications
Ph.D. or an equivalent degree in a relevant scientific discipline.
Preferred Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in two or more of the following areas: cell biology, chemical biology, bioinformatics, 3D cell culture, and high-throughput CRISPR or drug screening. Experience with the operation and maintenance of advanced instrumentation- such as the Echo 650 liquid handler or mass spectrometry systems-is highly preferred.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.
The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.
Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
