Job Description
DescriptionThis role is essential for coordinating and managing design and construction efforts to ensure the successful completion of assigned projects in alignment with the College’s schedule, program, budget, and strategic goals. In addition, administering and enforcing building codes and ensuring the safety and compliance of assigned construction projects and buildings
Examples of Duties
Project Manager
Contributes to problem-solving and informed decision-making within project teams by leveraging engineering expertise and strategic thinking to deliver on-time and on-budget results
Coordinate and facilitate the development of design and construction projects, managing their organization, scheduling, and implementation, and representing leadership as needed
Oversee and coordinate all project aspects, and work with contractors, architects, engineers, and consultants to ensure compliance with the Project Management best practices and all College rules and regulations
Initiate approval process for contractors and consultants, review and recommend periodic requisitions and invoices, and monitor building construction progress; responsible for coordinating bid advertisements, conducting pre-bid conferences, evaluating bids, and making recommendations for contract awards
Facilitate and oversee the administration of all contract payments, progress payment inspections and managing the job through completion; prepare and review change orders to contracts and maintain records of contingency allowances and consultant payments.
Building Official:
Acts as the University’s Building Code Official, under the direction of the AVP, Facilities
Responsible technical supervisory work administering and enforcing the Florida Building Codes including permitting, plan review and inspections to ensure compliance with existing codes, ordinances and statutes – Examine building plans and construction methods to ensure compliance with building codes – Drafts Permits
Review proposed alternative methods and materials from design professionals and builders
Communicates “Notice of Violations” and/or “Stop Work Orders” for breaches of the building code
Instruct permit technicians on permitting procedures
Consult with design professionals and clarify building code provisions
Develop new forms and departmental procedures
Supervise the scanning of all building plans
Facilitates the review of the technical, administrative, personnel and budgetary requirements of buildings to ensure compliance with regulations and College policy
Responsible for collaboration and cooperation in participation of strategic planning, staffing decisions, policy development and other key areas as a member of the facilities team
Promote the mission of reducing injuries and accidents, and ensuring compliance while executing the department’s vision, values, and strategic plan
Independently performs building and campus inspections to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal requirements making recommendations to minimize potential environmental risks
Assists in foreseeing the evolving needs of the institution, researches possible solutions and assembles applicable information for decision making, planning, and formulating policies to operationalize new programs and modifications to existing programs as p0art of a collaborative team effort
Responsible for the timely identification and reporting of safety concerns and violations
Serves on committees and participates in training programs through development, and attendance to ensure that relevant expert knowledge and specialized resources are being effectively utilized in addressing campus safety and health concerns
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering, or equivalent experience
