Qualifications:
Research Methods and Writing (Kines 300) serves as an introduction to the research methods utilized in exercise science, sport, and health. There are three main goals associated with the course. The first goal is to engage the students with the empirical literature and familiarize them with the research methodology used in Kinesiology. Related to this, the second goal is to educate students about the various kinds of discipline-specific writing, which will serve as a means for demonstrating understanding of research, measurement, and dissemination of ideas in Kinesiology. This course serves as the department's "writing in the discipline" (WiD) course. It is both writing-intensive and content-rich and uses writing to deepen the learning of disciplinary content. Finally, the third goal is to examine how the important variables in the field are measured, and how various tests in the cognitive, affective and psychomotor domains are constructed/implemented effectively.
This course will be taught in person on the Moraga campus during the 2025 Fall term on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 12:05-12:55 pm.
In addition to teaching, the instructor is expected to hold regular office hours (a minimum of one hour per week) in order to provide students with support outside of the classroom.
The successful candidate will hold an advanced degree in Kinesiology or a closely related field and have a recent publication record in the field, or a Master's degree in Kinesiology or a closely related field and have at least five years of current, relevant professional experience. Demonstrated teaching effectiveness at the undergraduate level, as evidenced by recent course evaluations, is strongly preferred. Candidates should be comfortable supporting and working in a multi-cultural environment. Preference will be given to those who have taught the course or KINES 015.
Candidates must reside in California.
The salary range for this position is $7,447 - 10,308 (3 units) and is covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the College and SEIU, Local 1021, available here.
