Job SummaryThe Department of Mathematics at the University of Michigan is searching for a Director of Student Academic Services for its undergraduate and graduate programs. The Director will provide strategic leadership and direction for the programs, projects, and activities related to advising, career services, records, admissions, enrollment, placement, and curricular activities. We seek a proven leader with exceptional interpersonal, communication, and management skills; demonstrated excellence in the design and delivery of services that will encourage and challenge students to be responsible for their success to become part of the leaders and best.

Responsibilities*
The Director of Student Services reports to the Chief Administrator and works closely with the Associate Chair of Graduate Studies and the Associate Chairs for Education to help achieve the mission, vision, and goals of the Department.
Manages the staff support for two Phd programs and the master's degree programs.
Has oversight for academic programs involving curriculum, initiatives, services, and activities for the undergraduate program, the master's degree programs, and Ph.D. programs. Responsible for the creative, innovative development in transforming the Student Academic Services in Mathematics.
Michigan Math and Science Scholars (MMSS) - Supervise the program coordinator to bring in over 500 high school students from around the world to attend summer camp each summer.
Quantitative Finance and Risk Management Master's program (QUANT) - supervise support staff and manage the recruitment and placement of 30+ students each year
Manages a multi-million dollar budget for graduate student support and prepares projection reports.
Has overarching responsibility for leading efforts to foster a culture that promotes student success, well-being, and pride in the Department.
Has leadership responsibility for planning, initiating, directing and assessing the outcomes of the Department's student initiatives, services, activities, and programs.
Works with the IT community to implement the use of technology to create efficiencies and enhance the delivery of student services initiatives, activities, and programs.
Advises and works closely with student leaders and others to pursue common goals and objectives and the creation and enhancement of Department student activities and organization programs.
Encourages faculty involvement in student out-of-class programs and research projects that enhance student learning outcomes.
Fosters collaboration and collegiality with all areas of the Department and builds strong relationships with the academic administration and faculty.
Fosters collaboration and collegiality with LSA and University areas.
Ensures that the Student Academic Services Office delivers top-notch service to all.
Presents Chair's leadership team with research, policy, and relevant decision-making information regarding student needs and welfare matters.
Interprets College academic policies and provides guidance to faculty and graduate student instructors in the implementation of policies.
Provides guidance to faculty and Graduate Student Instructors on matters of academic integrity.
Guides faculty and students to appropriate campus resources when student health issues arise.
Oversees the hiring of Graduate Student Instructors, Graduate Student Research Assistants and ensures processing of fellowships.
Recruits outstanding staff; ensures open communication; and provides staff with creative training and professional development opportunities; establishes performance accountability expectations and assessment.
Required Qualifications*
Bachelor's degree with at least 5-7 years of experience in higher education or equivalent experience and training.
