Job Description

Summary

The Department of Neurology is seeking an experienced Registered Dietitian to support our ALS clinic within our Neuromuscular Department. The ideal candidate will be able asses the nutritional needs of patients, manage PEG tube feeding and develop and implement nutritional care plans to patients served. This position will work closely with our ALS Clinic Director, Dr. Sarah Berth.

This position is part time and will work in our ALS clinic at the McNair Campus on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of the month.

Job Duties

  • Develops, implements and evaluates nutritional plans for patients with ALS (25%).
  • Manages PEG Tube feeding devices and provides nutritional plans (15%).
  • Provides education to support the nutritional plan of care and assess the learning needs and readiness to learn for all patients and families (10%).
  • Adapts nutrition plan to specific economic, social, cultural, and age-appropriate patient needs (10%).
  • Documents nutrition care effectively within electronic medical records (EPIC) (15%).
  • Reassess patients at appropriate intervals and adjusts plan of care as needed (10%).
  • Collaborates with Neurology, Neuropsychology, Pulmonology, & Palliative care to integrate and communicate nutrition principles that enhance patient outcomes (15%).
  • Attend ALS group meeting before clinic begins on Fridays.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Nutrition or related field.
  • No experience required.
  • Registered Dietitian by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) of the American Dietetic Association and a Licensed Dietitian by the Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation (TDLR).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with Neurology or patients with ALS.
