Summary

The Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a Transplant Surgeon to provide a wide variety of liver and kidney transplant procedures and hepatobiliary procedures for benign and malignant diseases. The accepted candidate will be required to provide clinical excellence, scholarly enthusiasm, and a track record of excellent clinical performance. The provider will have direct patient care responsibilities.

Ideal candidates will have at least three years of clinical practice experience. The division has a robust clinical program that includes 7 full-time faculty surgeons working across the Texas Medical Center and at Baylor-affiliated institutions including Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center, the Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and Texas Children's Hospital.

The successful candidate will be a faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor (tenure-track) in the Division of Abdominal Transplantation. The successful candidate should exhibit a commitment to clinical excellence, research, innovation, teaching and collaborative practices. The candidate must be certified by the American Board of Surgery and qualify for an unrestricted Texas medical license.

Job Duties

  • Support the liver and kidney transplant programs at Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center (BSLMC), Texas Children's Hospital (TCH) and Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center (MEDVAMC).
  • Render professional care and services to patients in accordance with accepted standards of care for the surgical transplant profession and within the following scope of practice.
  • Provide donor procurement coverage for the liver and kidney transplant programs at BSLMC, TCH, and MEDVAMC as assigned.
  • Provide clinical call-coverage as assigned.
  • Work in collaboration with other BCM specialties including but not limited to Hepatology and Nephrology.
  • Obtain detailed history and perform physical examinations.
  • Perform, order, and interpret diagnostic procedures in accordance with relevant health concerns of the patient.
  • Prescribe appropriate pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments.
  • Maintain records and write orders and progress notes in patient charts as to status, treatments, and procedures.
  • Monitor and ensure accuracy of recording on patient medical records.
  • Provide follow-up health maintenance care to patients.
  • Communicate with other physicians, patients, and family members of matters concerning patient care.
  • Collaborate with other providers and practice staff in identifying appropriate patients for care management.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education Required: Doctor of Medicine and completion of transplant fellowship.
  • Certification/Licenses/Registration: MD license, American Board of Surgery certified.
